Hi, my name is Jon, like many golfers I grew up in the 1980’s & 1990’s watching the greats such as Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Nick Faldo, Curtis Strange, and multiple Major winner the late great Payne Stewart.
I tried to follow in their footsteps and joined the PGA as an Assistant Golf Professional at the infamous Belfry, where I worked for 4 years before I decided that my career lay outside of golf, and I pursued other ventures off the course.
I was that immersed in other things that I stopped playing altogether for 15 years and only returned to the game in 2018.
The game has changed dramatically in that 1.5 decades with technology moving on, the distances people are hitting the ball increasing, scoring averages on tour dropping significantly as a younger, bolder mindset of just attack, attack, attack mean that 4 under par for 4 rounds will no longer win tournaments.
One change that I found that I couldn’t embrace was golf shoes. I just couldn’t adapt to this trend of golf footwear to mimicking gym wear or trainers.
When I reminisce over my early years as a golfer, I can’t help but think that the footwear was smarter and more stylish. I also think that a good pair of all leather handcrafted shoes just canlt be beaten for comfort, durability and value for money.
Faldo was synonymous with Stylo, but the ultimate for style & individuality (and perhaps the influence for Poulter and John Daly) was Payane Stewart. With footwear always colour co-ordinated to his outfits, Payne was instantly recognisable across any fairway.
Also hampered by a foot injury I sought to find a luxury, more traditional and smarter golf shoe in 2024. This search led me to Vecci, the brand behind Paynes legendary footwear.
Having worn Vecci shoes now throughout the 2024 season, every round of golf I’ve played has attracted compliments and comments about my shoes.
It’s for this reason that I feel, I’m not alone in my opinion on the modern footwear and together with Vecci am proud to bring their range of high quality, handmade, unique golf shoes to the UK.
